The German Federal Agency for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) recently released an update to EU regulations regarding the active ingredient Captan, partially revoking and implementing existing authorization restrictions on plant protection products containing Captan.
The approval of the active ingredient Captan was updated on September 3, 2024, in accordance with EU Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2186, and came into effect on November 1, 2024. Appendix I of the Implementation Regulations lists multiple new usage restrictions and special approval conditions, some of which require immediate application to existing registered products.
Main changes that take immediate effect:
1. Adjust the usage conditions of existing registered products (outdoor applications)
BVL made corresponding adjustments to all registered products containing Captan ingredients on March 27, 2025, and issued a change notice.All use of plant protection products containing Captan must immediately comply with the following new requirements.
2. Restrictive measures
Reduce the number of allowed applications
Reduce the maximum water usage per use
Reduce the maximum dosage for single use
Prohibited from use during flowering period (NB6611 label)
-The product is classified as hazardous to bees (B1)
-Prohibited from being applied to any flowering or bee active plants (including weeds)
-Must comply with the Bee Protection Regulations (July 22, 1992)
NT204 requires:-It is prohibited to use axial flow fan spray equipped with fan accessories to protect wild mammals
3. Use revocation
