Most application scenarios of paraquat and diquat dibromide in Australia may be disabled

Release time:2024-09-14
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed a regulatory decision for the reassessment of paraquat and diquat dibromide. Based on the current known information, after reassessment, 90% of the application scenarios for paraquat and diquat dibromide in Australia are not supported, including the withering of 23 mainstream crops, spraying scenarios for most broad-leaved grasses such as row crops, vegetable fields, and home gardening, as well as in the field of aquatic medicine. The public consultation on the proposed decision will be open until October 29, 2024.

    APVMA suggests:

    1. Change and confirm the registration and related label approval of chemical products such as paraquat and glyphosate, provided that at least one usage scenario is still supported (implying that if no usage scenario is supported, these two varieties may be banned).

    2. Change and confirm the registration of active ingredients for paraquat and diquat dibromide.

    3. Cancel the registration and related labels of two enemy grass fast products that do not meet legal safety, trade, or labeling standards.

The proposed decision system takes into account all active ingredients, formulation product registrations, and approved labels of paraquat and diquat dibromide in Australia.
